Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), disclosed that UAE airports exceeded the 134 million passenger mark in 2023 and are poised to reach 140 million by 2024.

Al Suwaidi attributed this milestone to the robustness and competitiveness of the UAE aviation sector, which has garnered significant international confidence.

  • In 2023, UAE airports logged around 38 million arrivals, 37.805 million departures, and 58.328 million transit passengers.
  • Growth was fueled by tourism resurgence and successful hosting of major international conferences towards the year-end.
  • Optimism prevails for 2024, with Al Suwaidi anticipating further passenger traffic growth to potentially hit 140 million.
  • Ongoing expansions at international airports, including Zayed International Airport – Terminal A inauguration and Al Maktoum International Airport expansion, will facilitate more flights to diverse destinations.
