Doha’s Hamad International Airport has been recognized as the top airport globally in the 2024 World Airport Awards, which took place at the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Frankfurt on April 17th, 2024. This marks the third time that Hamad International Airport has secured this prestigious title. Additionally, the airport received accolades for having the best shopping experience among airports worldwide and for being the best airport in the Middle East.
Qatar Airways Group CEO, Eng. Badr Al Meer, expressed gratitude for the recognition, particularly as the airport celebrates its tenth year of operation. He credited the dedication of the airport's staff for maintaining its leading position. Al Meer emphasized the airport's commitment to delivering exceptional passenger experiences through innovative services and unique amenities, such as the renowned indoor tropical garden known as the 'ORCHARD'.
In the 2024 rankings, Singapore Changi Airport, the previous winner, secured the second spot globally and was recognized as the best airport in Asia, along with winning the World’s Best Airport Immigration Service award. Seoul Incheon Airport climbed to the third position globally and was honored as the World’s Most Family Friendly Airport.
Tokyo Haneda Airport claimed the fourth spot globally and received several awards, including the World’s Cleanest Airport, the World’s Best Domestic Airport, and the World’s Best Airport PRM & Accessible Facilities.
Various other airports received recognition across different categories. Tokyo Narita Airport was acknowledged for its customer service, while New Chitose Airport was named the World’s Most Improved Airport. Chubu Centrair International Airport in Nagoya won the title of the World’s Best Regional Airport, and Kansai International Airport was lauded for its baggage delivery service.
Rome Fiumicino Airport received its first award for the World’s Best Airport Security Processing, while Terminal A at Newark Liberty Airport was honored as the World’s Best New Airport Terminal. Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport's Terminal 3 was distinguished as the World’s Best Low-Cost Terminal, and the airport was also named the Best Airport in Europe for the second consecutive year. Paris Orly Airport received recognition as the Best Regional Airport in Europe.
Istanbul Airport was commended for its dining experience and overall performance in Southern Europe. In other parts of Europe, Helsinki Vantaa Airport was acknowledged as the Best Airport in Northern Europe, while Budapest Airport retained its title as the Best Airport in Eastern Europe. Munich Airport received awards for its staff service in Europe and for being the Best Airport in Central Europe. The Hilton Munich Airport was honored as the Best Airport Hotel in Europe.
In Africa, Cape Town Airport was recognized as the Best Airport, with Durban King Shaka Airport receiving accolades for its staff service. Houston Airport System was acknowledged for providing the World’s Best Airport Art, and Houston Hobby Airport was declared the Best Regional Airport in North America.
Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport secured the title of Best Airport in China, while Haikou Meilan International Airport was recognized for its regional service and staff in China. Delhi International Airport continued its success as the Best Airport in India & South Asia. Crowne Plaza Changi Airport was named the World’s Best Airport Hotel, and Baku Heydar Aliyev Airport received awards for its service in Central Asia & CIS.
Dallas Fort Worth Airport was recognized for its staff service in North America, while Vancouver International Airport regained its title as the Best Airport in North America. In South America, Bogota El Dorado Airport was named the Best Airport, and San Jose Juan Santamaría Airport received recognition for its staff service. Melbourne Airport retained its title as the Best Airport in Australia & Pacific.
