Over the course of 19 months (about 1 and a half years), 250 people constructed the Al Bithnah Rail Bridge.

The UAE's national rail megaproject is reaching new heights, with a massive viaduct assisting in the country's connectivity ambitions.

Etihad Rail posted footage of Fujairah's Al Bithnah Rail Bridge on social media, which spans more than 600 meters and towers 40 meters above the ground.

It is the highest building on the rapidly expanding rail network, and it is expected to play an important role in boosting commercial linkages between Fujairah and the rest of the Emirates.

The transportation link exemplifies the UAE's objectives for the large infrastructure project.

Over the course of 19 months, over 250 people created the spectacular edifice.

It is one of numerous bridges strewn over the vast network, which also includes Dubai's Al Qudra Bridge and the sea bridge that allows trains to reach Abu Dhabi's Khalifa Port.

Etihad Rail published a photo of Al Wathba Bridge in June, which allows trains to cross the E22 Abu Dhabi to Al Ain road and is an important piece of infrastructure on the huge rail network.

The bridge was constructed in 13 months using around 10,000 cubic meters of concrete, 3,500 tonnes of steel reinforcing, and dozens of concrete beams.

The Etihad Rail freight network, which connects all emirates and seven logistical centers, has been in service since February.

Freight trains may reach speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour, and the operator's fleet of 1,082 wagons can transport a wide range of products, from cargo containers to building supplies.

"An extraordinary shot of Al Bithnah Rail Bridge in Fujairah, unlike any seen before," Etihad Rail said in a tweet accompanying the video on X, previously Twitter.

"This structure spans 600 meters and stands 40 meters tall, making it the tallest structure in the railway network."

"Supported by 14 pillars spaced at 40-meter intervals, this bridge was constructed by a team of approximately 250 workers over a 19-month period, playing a pivotal role in facilitating trade from Fujairah to the rest of the UAE."

Etihad Rail was founded in 2009. In 2016, the first freight line in Abu Dhabi opened, bringing sulphur from gasfields in Shah and Habshan to Ruwais Port.

The network now spans around 900 kilometers and is anticipated to extend to 1,200 kilometers when fully completed.

Etihad Rail is also proposing a passenger service, although no debut date has been disclosed.
