This ambitious program is spearheaded by Dubai’s urban planning committee, which has awarded contracts to enhance two of the city's most popular beach areas: Al Mamzar and Jumeirah 1. The Dh355-million project aims to develop a 4.3km stretch of Al Mamzar Beach and a 1.4km stretch in Jumeirah 1. The development is expected to be completed within 18 months.
During the development phase, public access to these beaches will be partially restricted to ensure safety and efficiency. However, the open sections will have stringent safety measures to protect beachgoers.
The enhancement of these beaches will include extensive facilities and amenities. A total of 11km of bicycle and running tracks, alongside a 5km tree-lined walkway, will be installed to promote outdoor activities. Areas for barbecues, fitness activities, and children's games will be strategically placed along the beaches. Moreover, the revamped beaches will feature beach rest houses and designated spaces for seasonal events.
Parking facilities will be significantly improved with the addition of 1,400 car parking spots. An automatic irrigation system will be introduced to maintain the greenery of the beach areas. Other modern amenities will include safety deposit boxes, WiFi, electronic screens, beach rescue services, and 100 security cameras connected to Dubai Municipality's and police's central control rooms.
In addition to the physical upgrades, authorities have also announced 50 investment opportunities. These include water activity leasing, commercial kiosks, restaurants, self-service machines for food and beverages, advertising spaces, and beach seating with umbrellas.
Last year, Dubai unveiled an ambitious plan to expand its coastline by 400 percent. This expansion will increase the public beach area from the current 21km to 105km, significantly enhancing the recreational offerings for residents and tourists alike.
Dubai currently boasts eight public beaches: Khor Al Mamzar, Al Mamzar Corniche, Jumeirah 1, Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3, Umm Suqeim 1, Umm Suqeim 2, and Jebel Ali. This new development will undoubtedly enhance the appeal and functionality of these popular coastal areas, reaffirming Dubai's commitment to providing world-class leisure facilities.
