Dubai will have 32 new metro stations by 2030

Dubai’s Metro service will expand with more stations for commuters in the next few years, following a development plan approved by the emirate’s Executive Council.

The expansion will increase the current 64 stations over 84 square kilometers to 96 stations over 140 square kilometers by 2030, and eventually to 140 stations over 228 square kilometers by 2040.

This plan is part of the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum. Key goals include boosting public transport use to 45%, reducing carbon emissions to 16 tonnes per capita, improving public spaces for walking, and increasing shaded areas.

The plan aims to develop areas around Metro stations to boost economic opportunities, link public transport modes, and improve the efficiency and convenience of sustainable transport. It will also offer incentives for developers, support the '20-minute city' concept, and increase commuter numbers.

Foreign Direct Investment Plan Alongside the Metro development, the council approved a Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Development Programme, aiming to attract Dh650 billion in investments by 2033. This includes international companies and aims to support the growth of existing international companies based in Dubai. Dh25 billion will be designated over 10 years to support these plans, placing Dubai among the world’s top three economies by 2033.

The FDI programme will showcase Dubai’s competitive advantages, such as its logistics infrastructure, strategic location, talent pool, and status as a global commercial hub.

Dubai's Economic Model The council also approved the Dubai Economic Model to measure the city’s progress against economic targets using a database of over 3,000 indicators to boost consumer and investor confidence.

Sheikh Maktoum stated: “The success of any economic model starts with empowering individuals, as they are the ultimate beneficiaries. Dubai is a diverse global city and a commercial hub known for vitality, diversity, and peaceful coexistence, while maintaining its core values and national identity. We invest in people and initiatives to achieve the goals of Dubai's Social Agenda 33, fostering happy, strong, and tolerant families proud of their values and identity.”

Manbar Programme For UAE nationals, the council approved the 'Manbar' programme to double the number of Emiratis working in mosques, providing them with the necessary skills and qualifications for leading prayers and performing the Friday prayer. Training and opportunities for permanent appointments will be provided, with comprehensive evaluations before and after graduation.

Ghras Al Khair Programme The 'Ghras Al Khair' programme was launched to empower Emirati content creators and promote values of tolerance, harmony, cohesion, and moderation, strengthening national identity. Schools and universities will offer related programs and awareness campaigns.
